We need to find a solution that aides in the physical and mental well being of our county’s homeless population. As part of the solution, a permanent home for the code blue shelter needs to be found. This issue is not just a city issue, but a countywide issue as well. Because of this we need to bring the other communities of the county into the solution . Once we establish a county wide dialogue, we can then better evaluate options to serve our homeless population.
Here’s the real issue. No one wants a shelter in their own back yard. This is referred to as NIMBY = not in my back yard. Anyone I speak with supports the need to help those less fortunate in their housing situation, but it is clear that their first response to any location that is identified by community leaders is NIMBY.
